The Art of Giving
IHOM & JCW Fundraising Art Auction and Dinner
The Institute for Healing of Memories (IHOM), in partnership with Joburg Child Welfare (JCW), warmly invites you to the IHOM Fundraising Art Auction and Dinner. This collaborative initiative brings together two organisations deeply committed to restoring dignity, healing, and hope in South Africa.
While IHOM focuses on trauma healing and reconciliation, JCW has been at the forefront of protecting and caring for vulnerable, orphaned, and at-risk children across Gauteng for over a century – providing safe spaces, family support services, and pathways to stability. This special evening will showcase exceptional works generously donated by leading corporates, along with a headline piece from acclaimed artist GreatJoy Ndlovu. Proceeds from the auction will directly support IHOM’s trauma healing programmes; including Healing of Memories Workshops, psychosocial counselling, community dialogues, youth development initiatives, and knowledge hubs – while also advancing JCW’s critical work in safeguarding vulnerable children and strengthening families in communities across South Africa. Established in the wake of South Africa’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission, IHOM has provided safe spaces for over half a million people to share their stories, process trauma, and rebuild their lives.
Its work continues to reach diverse communities locally and in more than 25 countries worldwide, supporting refugees, survivors of gender-based violence and human trafficking, prisoners, ex-combatants, youth, people with disabilities, and those affected by HIV/AIDS. Together, IHOM and JCW recognise that healing individuals and protecting children are deeply interconnected. By addressing trauma and creating safe, supportive environments, this partnership seeks to break cycles of vulnerability and build stronger, more compassionate communities.

Featured Artist
GreatJoy NdlovuÂ
Greatjoy’s work has been shaped by the expressive works of Gerard Sekoto and the conceptual prowess of Jenny Saville, two great painters whose combined influence catalyzed his evolution, informing how Greatjoy uniquely communicates his ideas and bridges the gap between visual representation and intangible everyday experiences.
Greatjoy’s style blends expressionistic and representational ideas with figurative drawings while retaining an enthralling tinge of abstraction that frequently lurks in his works. His work starts with light-hearted, experimental sketches that develop into large-scale, detailed works or even an entire series without losing the experimental element that characterizes his work. He also creates mind-piercing forms of portraiture that seek to decipher internal truths and meanings with such lightness of detail.
His work has attracted significant collector interest through highly successful exhibitions at renowned art fairs and galleries, gaining an ever-growing number of faithful collectors worldwide. He continues to enjoy art world prominence within South Africa and recognition of his immense talent across continents. Notable private collections include those of top American investor Rich Fettke, award-winning filmmaker Ava Duvernay, and world-renowned comedian Trevor Noah. Noteworthy corporate collections include ABSA Group, Array Studios, and Visio Investment Management.
Greatjoy’s rise to the global art scene is well documented in his autobiographical art book, “The Path to Greatjoy,” a captivating read for art lovers worldwide.
He studied art at Cyrene Mission, in Zimbabwe, which is an Anglican school playfully dubbed the “artist’s temple,” established in 1936 by Scottish-born priest Canon Edward Paterson.
