Africa Programme

24 March 2020

The Institute for Healing of Memories has for many years worked with a myriad of organisations and individuals on the African continent. Our histories are intertwined in slavery, colonialism, liberation wars and now the devastating impact of economic inequality and corrupt governance. The development of the Africa Programme which will be implemented in the following countries: Zimbabwe, Liberia, Lesotho, Malawi, Zambia, Namibia, Burundi and Angola has been a vision that has been pursued for many years.

The Africa programme will in this first-year focus on training facilitators for the Healing of Memories workshops and will be extended to other activities such as Youth program, dialogues at the later stage. Two people from each country mentioned above were scheduled to attend the Introduction to Healing of Memories’ Training Course 23 Mach-1st April 2020 in Cape Town South Africa. The training has been postponed to 17 - 27 August 2020 due to the COVID 19 pandemic.

We are energized by the commitment of our partner organisations in various countries. The workshops will focus on working with victims of gender-based violence, ex-combatants, religious extremism and violence in its many manifestations.
